It has rained the whole weekend. It started on Saturday morning and now it's Sunday night and it's still coming down. It a nice rain though. Not hard but just enough to see it falling. My garden needs the rain but I miss going outside.......

I took this picture from my workroom window. I love the water drops on the branches.

And this cute little fellow was out playing in the rain. While we ate breakfast this bird was out eating too.....! Isn't it cute?

It got pretty close to the window too.

Sorry about the blog absence. We have had the most beautiful weather here the last couple of days. I am talking about sunshine, warm days with a breeze. I took advantage of it!! I got outside and did some yard work, planted some sweet peas in my vegetable garden and got some sewing done. I was able to open my windows and let fresh air in and listen to the birds sign too.
Sadly, it's going to get cold again towards the end of the week but that's okay......the little taste of spring was wonderful.

It wasn't that bad of a day.....

So this morning my sweet daughter had a dentist appointment. She started saying how she felt bad. I laughed and said that she was just trying to get out of going to the dentist. Well she showed me...........I laughed no more. As we pulled into the parking lot of the dentist, she gets sick in the back seat, ALL OVER the back seat. I felt so bad!!! We drove with the windows down 3 inches after that) So my husband went in and changed her appointment until another day. Now she did get to feeling better after we stopped and got her a coke and some fries to eat. So we decided to ride to a few other stores.

We went to Hancock's Fabrics. I got some fabric to make some wine bag totes and a few other things.

Then it was off to Burger King.......I KNOW.....I didn't eat so great. But I only got a chicken sandwich that was fried and some french fries but that's the only time I ate bad.

Then we stopped by a reuse center and I found two white glass light globes. Don't really know what I am going to do to them yet. They were only $1.00

Maybe turn them upside down , close up the hole and make a large bowl and a vase.......

OK, after that we stopped off at the Cause for Paws thrift store. I love this store. All sales money goes to helping animal shelters. I got 3 coffee table books......BIG books that were 35.00 each for only 1.50 each. Not bad huh?? Shelby also got two books.

And I bought a blue tint small martini glass (65 cents) and a cute little wine glass (99 cents).

So it wasn't that bad of a day. And with her getting sick, it wasn't like she skipped school. :-)

After putting up with two days of nothing but rain over the weekend this is what I wake up to on Monday morning.....! (Where is Spring??)

Yes...snow. It was just a inch but enough!!! People I live in North Carolina....it's not suppose to snow so often here.

Our schools were on a two hour delay so guess who had to step outside.

Never mind she has a short sleeve shirt. Don't worry I made her wear her coat to school.

Happy Sunday!!

I had a free day yesterday and got to eat what ever I wanted. I ate pizza from Papa John's and I had cheesecake. Oh gosh it was so good. The piece of cheesecake was Apple Carmel, first time trying that kind. I loved it!! I did notice how bad I felt eating junk food after eating really good for a week. I can't believe I use to feel like this everyday, tired and sluggish. Today I am back to eating good. I did weigh and I lost 3 pounds so I was happy. This week I really want to get back to working out to.....!

I have a lot going on. More about that coming soon....... I promise!

I can't believe I don't have a pretty picture to add to this post. It has rained the whole weekend.....the WHOLE weekend!! My yard is soaked and muddy. I am hoping the weather people are right about the 70 degree weather coming towards the end of the week.

I wanted to blog a quick post to say HI. My daughter is waiting for us to play the game CLUE. I love that game, and it's a great way to pass time on a rainy weekend.

I miss my cupcakes!!

So I decided to really watch how I ate. I decided to eat 5-6 small meals every three hours through out the day. I started this on Sunday. So far so good. I have noticed I don't crave junk food because I am always full. And I drink lots of water. It's very much like the Body For Life plan. I also give myself one free day to eat WHATEVER I want. The only thing I haven't done is working out................I need to dust off my DVDs and decide which one I want to do! Okay really I don't want to do any of them but I guess I should.

Saturday I made sure I ate BAD. I wanted to get all the junk food I could in. I finished the day off with something I love. CUPCAKES. I made strawberry cake cupcakes. They were so good............to good. I didn't eat them all, I decided to freeze some to save for my next free day. :-)

So yesterday I received the fabric I ordered from Home Grown Pillows over at Etsy. LOVE IT!!
I also picked up some other fabric and supplies at a local fabric store. Just look at the fabric. I love fabric......I have a hard time cutting into new fabric. It's too pretty to cut.......!

This weekend I will be cutting into that pretty fabric. I have 5 seat cushions to cover for a friend of mine, and I have a custom purse order to get started on.

I am waiting for one more package to get here next week from another Etsy seller I order key fob hardware from. I heart Etsy sellers!!

Spring has Sprung

Spring has sprung! Okay, not really but I am so ready for it to get here. Last week we had 70 degree weather, it was so nice to see and feel the sunshine. This week....well, it's a whole other story. It's back to 50 degrees!!! COLD!
I love the spring because we get our vegetable garden ready, do yard work with out freezing, wear flip flops with jeans, buy a new pair of sunglasses, smell the food cooking on the grill, playing in the back yard with Shelby, start talking about vacations we want to take, watching blooms opening up......and more!

I have a few little blooms popping out!!!

Happy Valentine's Day!!

Okay I know it's not Valentine's day until tomorrow but it sure feels like it is here. Shelby made up 9 goody bags with candy to give to her close friends today at school. I think they turned out really cute.

Oh and she has a "boyfriend" too. It's so cute to hear her giggle and smile when he calls. Major crushing going on..............lol. She wanted to get him something so she picked it all out herself. She got him a heart shape box with candy and a cute little stuff dog. She even picked out a cute gift bag to put it in.

Slow Start

I am having one of those days......it's starting off slow. So this morning I decided to go even slower. Yes, I decided to take my time at breakfast. I wonder if I am the only one that scuffs down breakfast without even knowing what it taste like, just so I can get the day started. If I don't then it seems I don't really get a lot done.

It was nice to slow down, taste the bagel, and not to worry about my "to do" list.

Right now I am loving plain bagels with Strawberry cream cheese. While eating I looked through my favorite sewing book. Anna Maria Horner has a wonderful new book called Seams to Me. It's all about sewing and has projects to do too!

I just LOVE this pillow. So Spring like, and I am so ready for Spring. Bring on the warmer weather. I hope to make some cute pillows for my living room.

I think it's so fun to create with fabric. I like the way Anna Maria Horner used frames, fabric and buttons to add style to decor. Too cute!

I need an apron.....I make a mess when I cook. I like this one!

Well, I am at the end of the book, the bagel is almost gone, and the coffee needs a refill. I guess it's time to speed it up and get that laundry washing, dishes loaded into the dishwasher and make my way into my workroom and turn on the sewing machine.

It went from plain to darn cute......

So I had this red hand towel that I like to put out in February (for Valentine's) and in the month of December (for Christmas). It was just plain red....... I wanted to add a little something to it. I wanted it to be cute....ok?

So in about 20 minutes later I had it looking too cute!!!

I love polka dots and I had this cute red ribbon with white dots in my ribbon basket and I got excited when I saw it in there, I knew right away what I was going to do with it......!

*(I don't know why, but in this pic my wall looks yellow, it's not, it's a sandy color tan, like the first picture!)*

I love the way it turned out so I am going to share the way I did it.....just in case you want cute hand towels too.

Step 1: Supply list

1 hand towel

heat bond (you can find this at walmart or Joann's)

iron

sewing machine and matching thread (if you don't sew I will add how you can do it at the end)

Ribbon

Step 2:

Wash your towel and dry it first. Then lay ribbon across the towel (where you want the ribbon to be) to see what length you will need. I went a little longer than the towel.

Step 3:

Take your heat bond and iron it to the back of the ribbon. Let it cool and then peel off the paper backing, it will leave the sticky glue on the ribbon. **I used the head bond that was smaller than my ribbon because I am also sewing the ribbon and I didn't want any glue at the edges where I am sewing, so my needle will not get sticky. If your heat bond tape is wider than the ribbon just cut it down on the sides.**

Step 4:

Turn ribbon right side up and place where you want it to go and iron it down. **I didn't iron the ends down b/c I am sticking them under the edges of the towel like in step 5.**

Step5:

I took my seam ripper and open the little folded over edge (just enough to fit my ribbon ends into) open and stuck my ends into it and folded it back closed.

Step 6:

Stitch the ribbon down both sides, once getting to the end of one side, stitch down the folded over part to close up the opening.

Step 7:

Cut all strings and go hand up and step back and admire your cute hand towel.

It's SO easy and fast too!!

****Okay if you don't have a sewing machine, well you can still have cute towels.****

First cut ribbon so you have a 1inch extra on each side of the towel. (Basically 2 inches longer that the towel, you will want 1 inch on each side to fold over). NOW take a lighter or match and heat seal the ends. To do that just light the lighter and hold the end of the ribbon across the flame, it will melt the ends of ribbon. BE CAREFUL!!!!

This picture shows how to heat seal the ribbon ends.

You add the heat bond to the back of the whole ribbon. (If your ribbon is wider than the heat bond tape, just cut an extra piece of HB tape to fill in) Let cool and then peel off paper backing.

Place ribbon right side up, leaving a 1 inch on each side, and iron down. Let cool, and then turn over and iron the 1 inch on each side down to the back of the towel. Let cool , then hang it up to look at and it's ready to be used.

I hope you get the chance to make some!!!! If you do I would love to see pictures of them and let me know if you have any questions about this tutorial.....!

We woke up to some more snow. It's only about 1-1/2 inch, but very pretty. They didn't have to cancel school but did go in on a 2 hour delay. So I took some pictures this morning and on the way to carry Shelby to school.

My Dad, my nephew and one of my sister's neighbor all have birthdays this month. So we got together at her house and had lunch to celebrate all the birthdays at one time. We had fun!!

I love this picture of my Dad and my daughter. He has that look like he was doing something he shouldn't be.......maybe opening a gift earlier than suppose too!! You see, he is like a kid when it comes to opening gifts, especially at Christmas time.

At my sister's house.....That's my brother over there beside my Dad and Shelby. And if you look really hard you will see my sisters foot at the bottom corner and mine above hers.

This is my nephew that has a birthday today too!!! How cool is it to share your birthday with your Papa......

My daughter and us were so happy to see the laptop come on and work. My husband cleaned it really good and cleaned all down under the keys. He's the best...............!!

Had a Bad Day.....

Do you know the song Had a Bad Day by Daniel Powter??? Well, that's how yesterday was for my sweet daughter. I felt so bad for her.

So, your know she got a laptop for Christmas, http://needlesfabricandthread.blogspot.com/2008/12/where-am-i.html

Well, she was on it yesterday afternoon and all of a sudden I heard this horror scream "Please bring me a towel"....."hurray"!!! I run to her and find that she has spilt chocolate milk on the laptop. She is in tears, I am trying to control myself. Thankfully she only spilt very little but a little is a lot sometimes. I was able to get most of it but noticed that some had gone under the keyboard. So I call my husband into the house and he gets online on our other computer and finds out what to do. (Thank you YouTube, they have videos on what to do!!!) He takes it a part some to clean down inside it, and now we have to make sure it is completely dry before ever turning it back on. We have to wait for 3 days........ We have our fingers crossed that it will work.

I spent the whole night telling my daughter that she isn't the only one that has done this!!! It happens all the time. She is so sick feeling about it, I am just praying that it will work.

New house rule: NO liquids around any computer!!! ( I don't think I have to worry about that anymore.)

My daughter had a friend come over Yesterday and they played in the last bit of snow that's on the ground. I think they had fun. I saw them chasing each other, snowball fighting and even built a snowman.....um.....snowlady.

I can't believe it snowed here in NC. We normally just have flurries. This time it snows about 4-6 inches.....I know, it's not a lot but when you don't get snow you will get excited over the least bit.

After weeks of not blogging I am glad to say I am back. I hope I still have readers.....

I have had a lot going on this year already. I will be posting more about that later, but I am happy to be back into the workroom. I have new purse designs I am working on. I am digging the new fabric I have. I really like the yellow and black combination!

Where am I?

Surely I am not in my house!! It's clean. Since Saturday I have had the flu. I have done nothing but lay in bed or on the couch. Today is Tuesday and I am feeling a little better, I just have this yucky cough and I still get tired and have to rest.

I have to send much love and thanks to my husband and daughter. They got all the Christmas decorations down and packed up for next year. That was a big help. Now my house looks empty.......but clean!! Thanks guys!

My daughter is out of school this week, I want to spend time with her but having this flu sickness hasn't helped. I don't want her to get it, at least she has had the flu shot so we will see if it works. :0)

We did watch a few movies together, and hopefully we can get a few board games in at the end of the week. I love game night!! She has been having fun playing with her new Laptop that she got for Christmas. She also got lots of clothes so she has been modeling them and coming up with new outfits by mixing and matching......

I hope everyone has had a wonderful Christmas. Mine was wonderful. Just wanted to let my readers and blog friends I have decided to take a much needed break. I am looking forward to spending some time with my daughter while she is out of school, she got lots of movies and board games so we have lots of fun things to do. I also want to DEEP clean through out my house, I have lots of "stuff" that I don't need. I have a few custom orders to work on so I am taking this time to finish them, draft new purse designs, draft some fun Home designs and clean out workroom.

Yes I did!! I went and cut into my favorite wrapping paper. I keep putting this wrapping paper towards the back when I was wrapping gifts.....I just couldn't bring myself to cut into it. I loved it. (I often find myself acting like this over new fabric, it's just so hard to put the scissors to it.)

Just look at it....isn't it pretty. The candy looks so real.

I told my husband I could wallpaper my workroom in it. I did decided that I would have to save a small piece and frame it and use it as wall art next year.

Yes, I did cut into it. I chose the BIGGEST gift I had to wrap. It's to my husband. I wonder if I chose his gift just so I could save the paper.........um...........probably so!!

Shelby came home and told me she had 9 friends that she wanted to give gifts too.....huh??....9....! So we came up with the idea of polka dot zipper pouches. We placed candy, chewing gum, pencils and a fabric bookmark in each one. I think they turned out pretty cute.

For the Teachers

While in Elementary school I would make purses for Shelby's teachers because she only had one or two teachers each year. Now in Middle school she had 6 teachers and two are men....don't think purses would work for the men. So we decided to buy mugs and place two packs of hot chocolate, candy canes and candy inside. Hope they like them.

Rain Rain Go Away.....

So today my good friend emailed me and informed me that I hadn't blogged today....twice!! You see she likes to read my blog when she isn't able to sleep.

It has rained like almost all day. It's after 8pm and it's still raining here.

Something Yummy!

Last night I had some left over chicken and decided to make soup. Chicken noodle soup!! It turned out pretty good. It was a great way to warm the soul!

My Chicken Noodle soup:

Half of a cooked whole chicken (great way to use left over chicken)

Carrots (cut up)

Sweet peas (frozen is what I use)

Onion (cut up)

Egg noodles (wide)

1 can of chicken broth

Salt and pepper to taste

I put the broth and some water into a pot, bring to a boil, throw in the chicken, sweet peas, carrots and onion in and cook about 5-10 mins. Then add the noodles and bring back to a boil. Let cook until carrots, peas and noodles are done. Stir often while cooking.

It's easy and you can add any type of veggies you want.

I also make some bread too. That's super easy too!! Just take slices of bread and cut up in strips and brush with oil, sprinkle Parmesan cheese on and then sprinkle some chopped black olives on and toast.

It was super hard getting up this morning, but once I got some coffee in me I was moving around.

The other day I was so happy to find time to get back into my work room. I was ironing some fabric and placed the iron down to move the fabric around. As I did this my hand hit the iron...........OUCH!!! I now have a big burn on my hand. Needless to say, I unplugged the iron, turned out the lights in room, shut the door and spend the rest of the day rubbing aloe on my hand. It's been 3 days now, the burn pain is gone but it's not that pretty!

I am just dropping in to say hello to everyone! I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!! I ate way to much, my husband told me Yesterday that he was sick of food.

We don't do the black Friday shopping like most people...I don't like seeing grown people and crowds of people fighting over stuff, it's crazy. So today we are headed out to do some shopping. My daughter is going to a museum and a movie with her best friend so it's a perfect opportunity to shop for her.

I wanted to share this picture I took of my nieces and nephews and my daughter on Thanksgiving. I am printing it off and give to my Dad for Christmas from all of them. (Don't worry....he doesn't get on the Internet so he won't see it)

We have a tree in our front yard, his name is Mr. Woody!

He stands tall and with much pride.

When you walk under him, he likes to throw pecans at you.

Although this can be a fun game, he doesn't pick them back up.

Mr. Woody likes to watch us pick them up.......

We have to atleast once a week, he has many more pecans ready to throw!

Even Push Up likes looking for pecans.

Thank you Mr. Woody for the tasty pecans this fall.
I think I will go bake some pecan pies now........! :-)

The Weather Outside is.....

CRAZY!
Last week it was thunderstorms and tornado's, this morning it's snow flurries! WHAT?......snow flurries. It's odd for North Carolina to get flurries or snow, it just doesn't snow that much here like it use too. I just wonder if this winter is going to be different....my daughter sure hopes so.

From the time my daughter was born we would read to her every night. I am thankful that she loves to read now. So I decided to make a few fabric bookmarks for my Etsy shop. Team them up with a book and give as a gift, they make great stocking stuffer, or just give as a thank you gift to your little one when they do something nice.
(I also still have some pocket pouches, key fobs and bookmarks that are perfect to stick in the stocking!)

Weekend Wrap Up

If there was any weekend I want to see over this weekend would be it!! Friday night I woke up around 2:30 am to hear on the tv they are calling for a tornado to hit in our area. I was freakin' out, I woke up my hubby and we got our daughter up in case we needed to get in the closet. It was raining really hard, and I could hear the wind blowing, and it was lighting and thundering too. On the news they had this map saying we had about 8 minutes to take cover........and then it updated and the tornado made a slight turn to the east north. It hit down 10 minutes from my house. I have never been so scared, my hubby said I was freaky out bad. I remember getting a blanket and sitting down by my bed with my daughter beside me, while hubby watched the news. I felt so sad the next day. The news report some injuries, two deaths and a lot of damage.

Then Saturday afternoon we get a phone call that my brother-in-law's mother passed away. I only met her a few times and she was one of the nicest person. She had cancer for the last couple of months.

Then Saturday night has we were sitting down to eat diner, our lights go out. It's dark, no lights on down the street. So we ate candlelight. After we ate we lit more candles and found our lanterns. We played cards and talked about this weekend. Finally after 2 1/2 hours they fixed the power and we all had lights. It's just been crazy here.

What......Watermelon in November?

Over the summer we had bought watermelon to eat. After eating it, my husband tossed out the seeds and uneaten watermelon. Well, it wasn't long until we had tiny watermelons sprouting at the edge of the field. Since it's getting cold my hubby decided to pick them anyway because they wouldn't do much once it was so cold. They were little and cute. The first one was really good to eat. The other two were light pink and not ready. Atleast we got one that was good.

And I have a bird feeder and feed the birds with sunflower seeds. Can you believe I have tiny sunflowers growing under it.....? It's November. They are little and cute too. I took a picture of them, even with frost on them. It's finally getting cold here.

Weekend Wrap Up

Today we got up and remembered that we were to turn our clocks back....hope you did too!!

Shelby has been under the weather since Saturday morning. She woke up with a bad head cold and running a slight fever. She is up and moving around today so I hope she is getting over it. She still sounds stuffy but the fever is going away.

We started re-doing our bathroom. It was painted a moss green and I have for a long time wanted it dark chocolate brown, and have my hubby glaze the cabinets with a black stain. Lucky me, he loves doing stuff like this so we have started the process and once finished I will post pictures. He probably thinks I wanted to do this so I could buy more fabric and make matching curtains........he's probably right.....LOL.

Today I got an email from Etsy seller NickyBeeShop that she included one of my little mini zipper pouches in her treasury!! I was so happy. Please stop by her shop at http://www.nickybeeshop.etsy.com/ , she has some really cute stuff for Christmas. I love finding new shops........

I hope everyone has a happy, fun, and safe Halloween !!

It's kinda sad for us. We won't be taking her trick or treating this year....first time in 11 years. She is older and going off with her parents just isn't that cool anymore...lol. One of her good friends invited her to go to a Carnival this year so she is excited. She still will be getting dressed up so I will have pictures of her next week. My husband made a comment about being sad that she is growing up. I guess we will be sitting at home eating candy while she is out having fun. But that's all that matters......having fun!!

But I did receive a very sweet email from a blog reader/Etsy seller that cheered me up.

Odds-N-Ends

I have a few odds-n-ends to show you.

First I wanted to say that my Fall quilt is DONE! I am happy with it, with it being my first quilt ever I do like it and hope to do one for Christmas too. The whole family has taken turns wrapping up with it while watching TV.

Shelby has decided to grow her feet longer :-)........no more girl sizes ,she is now walking in 7 - 7.5 size in women's. I can't believe it. I told her I can't wait until she is wearing my size 8.5 then we can share shoes....she wasn't as excited about that as I was! Oh well. After walking around 12 stores she finally found something she liked. They are cute and furry. (we had to go to 12 different stores because girl sizes didn't go past a 6 and all women shoes where to pointy, or high heel boots, or sky high in price.) We found these on sale for $25. Now I have to get her some tennis shoes...................!

I have some great key fobs in my SHOP! They make great teacher gifts too.

This One is For the Girls

Little girls that is!

You know every little girl likes to have their own bag or wristlet. I have a few great items for that special little girl in my shop. They make great Christmas gifts, or Birthday gifts.

I have the Fun Dots Wristlet. A wonderful little pouch for her to carry a small pack of crayons or pencils and small notepad in on those trips to the doctor, mall, restaurant or keep in the car for entertainment on those car trips. Great for older girls that have a Nintendo DS or Nintendo Lite, it slides in easily.

Pink Pinwheels Snap and Go Pouch is a smaller pouch. She can snap it on her belt loop or carry in her hand. Small put will still hold a small pack of crayons, notepad, and even a Nintendo DS or Nintendo Lite.

And of course every girl likes to carry their own purse. Later today I will be listing this pretty purse on Etsy. This purse is just too cute. I love the fabric, which is 100% cotton. I fully lined this purse with pink fabric and added one pocket on the inside. There are cute sayings like: BFF, Smile, You Go Girl, Fabulous, It's a Girl Thing!

Do you know what time it is? It's...........

Last week at Shelby's school they had Homecoming week where they got to wear certain things like hats, school colors, dress like twins....this week is red ribbon week which means Say no to Drugs and they have crazy hat day, pj day, red ribbons day. So last week we made this cute ribbon ponytail holder to match her school colors. It's very easy to do!!

Great thing about this is you can make them with any colors, and theme ribbons like Christmas.
My daughter likes these because they are not BOWS. But it's a fun way to "dress" up any plain ponytail.

To get started you will need:
-------------------------------
Grosgrain Ribbon (colors/print of your choice and width sizes)
Ponytail elastic band
Hot glue gun and glue stick ( in photos I used e6000 first but then decided to go with hot glue gun because it dries FAST.)
Lighter or match (used to heat seal your ribbon after they are cut)
Scissors

STEP 1:
Cut your ribbon the length you desire. If you leave them a little longer you can always go back and trim shorter.
I cut the longest one at 16" and then cut each on on top a little shorter.

STEP 2:

Take a lighter or match and hold the flame just at the tip of each end of ribbon to heat seal it. It will melt the ends some so it will not fray.

STEP 3:

In between each layer find the middle and place a dot of glue .
(I suggest using the hot glue gun because it will dry fast, so no waiting for glue to dry)

Step 4:

Cut a small piece of ribbon and glue on top in the middle, this will be wrapping around the ponytail holder. You can see it better in the next step.

STEP 5:

Once small piece of ribbon is dried flip over and glue the ponytail band in the middle. Just use small dot of glue.

STEP 6:

Now fold over one side and place dot of glue under the folded part, let dry and then do same on the other side.

STEP 7:

IF you are using E6000 you will need a clothespin to hold in place to dry completely. But if your are using hot glue and gun it will dry quick.

STEP 8:

Place in hair and step back and admire your work!!!!!

Pumpkins

This weekend was a lazy weekend for us. It was a little rainy on Saturday so we stayed inside. We watched scary movies......BOO! I love watching scary movies in daylight but I can't bring myself to watch them at night.

On Sunday we carved pumpkins. We have always done this with Shelby since she was little.

Zoo Trip Part Five

Last day for the Zoo Trip posting.

Here is a cute turtle from Sonora Desert I forgot to post.

This was a cute game about nature the girls enjoyed playing.

At the African Pavilion they have a look out where you can see antelope, rhinoceroses, and elephants.

They chimpanzees are the funniest animals. I fell in love watching them. They were climbing like crazy.

Zoo Trip Part Four

Today's photos will come from the Junction Plaza, Forest Aviary and African Pavilion.

The Junction Plaza is were we stopped for lunch. It is in the middle of the zoo park.

Our lunch was good. They have cheeseburgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, fries, chips and pizza available. And snacks and drinks too!

After eating, the girls decided they wanted to ride the carousel.

Then we walked into one of many gift shops.

Ha Ha....just look at my girl working her daddy! I have trained her well....LOL Give him the big brown sad eyes and he will give in.

After a little shopping, we went to the Forest Aviary to see some tropical birds, frogs, and large plants.

Zoo Trip Part Three

Are you sick of seeing zoo pictures yet???

I have more...LOL.

( I think I will have a whole week of zoo post by the time I am done......)

So, today we are going to visit the Sonora Desert and see other animals.

We saw two black bears.

Here are some Elk....normally they are way back in the field, but today they were closer.

YIKES!!!

We even got to see the bison up close too.

Here's a sweet Grizzly Bear....he was eating something so he wouldn't look up.

Here's a Red Wolf. There was a bigger one but it stayed behind a big rock....guess it was shy.

Here is the Sonora Desert. Isn't it a pretty building. It had large plants and cactus all around.

Inside you will find roadrunners, ocelots, reptiles, and bats.

Zoo Trip Part Two

After the Kid Zone we walked through the Rocky Coast. There you will see Polar bears, sea lions, seals, and arctic foxes.

Zoo Trip Part One

I am breaking up our zoo trip into parts. There are a lot of animal pictures I want to show and it would be easier to do it in parts.

We had a fun day. The weather was a little chilly at first but warmed up after we got walking around. We did a lot of walking too!! It's a little over 2 miles of walking. My legs were sore the next day.

When we first got into the gates, we started walking to the Cypress Swamp. Here you will find Alligators, cougars, waterfowl and some turtles.

My favorite part......BIG CATS!! Ever since I was a little girl, I have always loved big cats. I use to dream of working with them, but that never happened.

After that, the path went to the Kid Zone. There was a maze you walk through, a butter fly trail....didn't see any though, and a Mud Pie Kitchen and the Wall Of Art.

My Grandmother had this sewing machine in her house for many years. Growing up I remember this sewing machine. So my Uncle had the finish striped off to redo it....well he never did. Then they moved my Grandmother into a rest home and he put it up in storage. Little did he and us know the building had a leak......so it sat there with moisture getting to it. Finally I was able to get it. It now sits in my sewing room. My husband is going to refinish it, and see if he can wire brush the rust off the metal pieces. I need to replace the belt on the wheel too. I don't plan on ever sewing with it, BUT at least it's going to be taken care of now!!

There was a few little odds and ends in the drawers.......needles, buttons, snaps, hook-n-eyes,

and even some quilting thread. I love the little wooden spools!! Check out the thread with the price on it.....22 cents....I only wish I could find 22 cent thread now.

Really.....but it's so soon!

Do you know what this picture is????

It is Christmas trees lit up in our local Lowe's store. Last night after my daughters soccer game hubby at to run to Lowe's' to pick up a few things. I can't believe they had A LOT of Christmas decor, lights, wrapping paper, and bows all out. It was pretty but.....my Christmas decor comes out the day after Thanksgiving.

Let's not forget about the turkey, dressing, gravy, mash potatoes, sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole Holiday......Thanksgiving.....now pass me a roll and no one will get hurt!!

Some Like It HOT

The other day my Dad brought over some hot peppers from his garden. Lots of them!

So this weekend I decided to make some Hot Pepper Relish. We love anything hot. It's very hot but so good, we like to take wheat crackers add some cream cheese and top it off with a little pepper relish. Even my daughter likes it.

Here's the recipe if you would like to try it.

Hot Pepper Relish

--------------------

2 qt. Hot peppers, finely chopped (remove some seeds)

2Tb. salt

2 cups sugar

2 cups vinegar

Combine peppers and salt, let stand 3 to 4 hours. Add sugar and vinegar, cook, stirring frequently, about 45 minutes. Pour into hot jars leaving 1/4" head space. Adjust caps. Process 10 minutes in boiling water bath.

**Note: If you don't like extremely hot, use 1 quart hot peppers with 1 quart finely chopped sweet red peppers. You can substitute to fit your taste.

***PLEASE wear gloves when chopping peppers, I forgot until I had already started and my fingers were hurting later that night. :-)***

Yesterday my daughter came home from school and handed me this piece of paper. I looked at it, then look at it again. I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Are you kidding me......prices on the school pictures have gone up and I mean UP.

Looks like we will be playing dress up and taking our own photos. I will get the cheapest package for $15 so she will have a few photos from school but I just can't bring myself to pay $50 just to get a package with a 8x10 in it......too much.

Okay, now that I am done fussing about prices......LOL....I hope everyone has a GREAT WEEKEND.

I am a little late blogging today.....! Sorry

So today after picking my daughter from school, we thought it would be nice to get a haircut. We normally have to fix it every morning....wash, dry, straighten, and spray. Ever since she was a baby she has had a head full of hair. BUT she has straight hair except for one spot...it's very wavy.

I use to be a hair stylist before my daughter was born. My good friend Karen and I use to own our own hair salon, I have been cutting hair since 1990. Long time...huh? I only do it at home now, mostly family.

But anyway, I cut her hair today. I love it, it's so much nicer. She loves it too! Maybe our mornings will go a little smoother......yeah right! !

It's here! The weekend!
I hope each and everyone of you have a great weekend.

I will be spending the weekend with my hubby. Our daughter is going to stay the weekend with her best friend. We don't have many plans, just going to stay around the home and relax. I do have a 16th birthday party to go to on Sunday...I can't believe my niece is turning 16...yikes!

So with that said I will end this post with a few photos taken outside with our new camera.

A man loves his tools

My husband loves tools.....we have spend many Saturday afternoons walking around Antique stores and Flea markets looking at old tools. I do enjoy it because I have come across a few old sewing notions and fabrics while out looking. We also love...LOVE finding old furniture.

Well, my hubby does furniture repairs and builds furniture on the side. Our dream would be he builds his business to where this is all he does and can work at home. Maybe one day!!

Over a year or so he has been wanting a spray gun.....not just a spray gun BUT the spray gun of all men's dreams. It's called the Critter Gun. It's a cute little thing....and I mean it's little. He stains and paints furniture so he wanted it because of the easy clean up because you use canning jars to hold the paint or stain. SO, this past Father's day, daughter and I purchased one for him. I have to say.....if you paint or stain large items.....it's well worth the price. He loves it.

Yesterday he was out in the workshop building a cabinet section for Mr. Bruce, and I caught him using the critter gun............he is a happy man!!

oops...he heard me.....:-)

One day I will have to post pics of items he has redone or build. He is my favorite handyman!!

Quilt Update

I am coming along with the quilt. I hope I am doing it right....since it's my first one. I have done research online and read some quilt magazines. I have to say, I enjoy it!! I now have my quilt top done and I am working on my binding. Hopefully I will have my layers quilted soon, just something like a basic straight stitch for this one, nothing fancy .....just easy!

Thought I would show you the top: (I had to use clothespins at the bottom to give it weight because it was a little windy)

And as you can see, the clothespins didn't seem to work to well.....LOL

Oh and I did a Fall pillow Yesterday as I was watching a quilting show on PBS.

Two Silly Kittens

Most of you who read my blog know that I have two little kittens, Smokey and Push Up. They love to get on the roof of my Hubbys workshop. So this morning I saw them up there....I waited until they decided to come down and I was able to catch them in action getting down. I have to say they are to cool and smart little kittens. Enjoy!

54 squares...

Yesterday I ironed all fabrics and cut out 54 squares. It wasn't so bad.....the squares are large. I have a rotery cuter but not a cutting mat or ruler so I didn't layer cut. I used my paper cutter to make a perfect square and traced it on the back of the fabric and cut each one at a time. I am some what excited about doing this quilt. I hope to decided on a layout today so I can start stitching them together to complete the quilt top.

Have you ever wanted to do something new?? I have always dreamed of doing a small lap quilt. Just something easy like large squares. I can remember being small and watching my Grandmother and Mother quilt, they would have it all spread out in the living room and I just thought it was so cool. They used the old timey quilt frame and I would sit under the quilt and pretend it was a fort. Anyway, back to what I was saying....or typing.....I have decided to try it. I am using some Fall fabrics I have on hand, I do think I need to pick up some brown fabric for the back. So I hope it turns out good enough for me to post here on the blog..........

About three years ago we gave my daughter a paint set for Christmas. I am all for one to get kids into art and bring out their creative side. So I decided to show you three of my favorite ones. I have the two small ones hanging on my wall in my sewing room and the large one is hanging in her room.

My daughter was around 8 when she painted these!

Go out today and buy a pack of crayons and paper and have fun getting to know your creative side!!!

Today was my daughter's first soccer game of the season. I had the best time....it was so fun to watch. It was SO hot, and I think every kid had that red sweaty face after the game. They were able to win 6 to 4 so they were happy and the parents were too! Durning the game I over heard one of the little boys on our team turn to another and say...."I can't believe we are beating them!" It was the most funniest thing.
